My Sister’s Visit, Day Two – Tour de Brooklyn

A drizzly and cool gray day – perfect if you ask me. We headed over to check out Smorgasburg, the food branch of the Brooklyn Flea Market each Saturday along the water in Williamsburg. This was a foodie’s dream come true! A huge open lot chock full of amazing local vendors delighting the palettes of hungry and excited mouths. Tons to choose from – an array of baked goods, tacos, lobster rolls, BBQ, schnitzel sandwiches on pretzel bread, ice cream and popsicles, oysters, beef jerky, sausages, fresh-drop coffee, limeades galore (we sipped on a refreshing and tart grapefruit limeade), pickles, grilled cheese, and tons more. I’d say our absolute fav was the quinoa falafel with a cilantro-lime sauce from Saucy by Nature – a flavorful and steaming bite of quinoa heaven topped with a killer green sauce that my sister was about to drink with a straw. We were conned into trying some mini spinach and feta pies at a Greek vendor mostly because the guy serving was smokin’ adorable but his puffy triangles were far from it. Oh well, still worth seeing that sparkly smile up close. Extra bonus of the afternoon was a Mario Batali sighting (probably not that exciting for most New Yorkers who’ve seen him roaming around, but it’ll never get old for me). Afterwards, we continued our adventure down Bedford Avenue and through the Hasidic neighborhood but as suspected my people did not acknowledge the two reform Jewish girls on their walking tour. We wound our way through Clinton Hill, Fort Greene (which I think I love), and to downtown to catch the train back home. Our feet hurt.
